Mississauga street turned into river after water main break unleashes deluge

Multiple videos posted on social media by Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services on Tuesday show a residential street flooded after a water main break occurred.

According to officials, the break happened late Tuesday afternoon at approximately 5 p.m. and flooded a section of Tacc Drive in Mississauga.

Videos show the water bubbling and shooting up like a fountain and covering the street as helpless residents looked on from their porches.

In an update on X shortly after 5 p.m., Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services said they were on scene to tape off the area and work on fixing the water main leak.

The update confirmed that multiple homes were affected, although no timeline for the leak's cleanup was provided.

On Wednesday, Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for Toronto and the GTA, advising of "torrential downpours" with rainfall totals ranging anywhere from 40 to 60 mm, with locally higher amounts possible.

blogTO reached out to Mississauga Fire Services to confirm if Wednesday’s downpour affected the water main leak cleanup, but has not heard back at the time of this article's publication.
