Here's where you can get free sunscreen in Toronto this summer

Toronto's free sunscreen program is back this summer to provide free sun protection and raise awareness about sun safety.

The program makes available 50 free sunscreen dispensers at select parks along Toronto's waterfront and High Park.

Two sunscreen dispensers will also be installed on HTO to Go water trailers.

The free sunscreen project was launched in 2017 when the City of Toronto partnered with the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund and the Douglas Wright Foundation to install free sunscreen dispensers at five parks by the lake.

Since the launch, the dispensers have been used more than one million times and have dispensed over 1,000 litres of sunscreen.

According to the website of the Government of Canada, "about one third of all new cases of cancer in Canada are skin cancers," and "one in 73 Canadian women will develop melanoma during their lifetime while one in 59 Canadian men will develop the disease."

The research is substantiated by the Canadian Cancer Society that estimates that 5.1 per cent men and four per cent women are likely to be diagnosed with melanoma in 2024.

So as you soak up the much-needed sunshine, don't forget to protect your skin from harmful UV rays to reduce your risk of skin cancer.

The sunscreen provided in these dispensers — which can be found at Sugar Beach, Harbour Square Park, Toronto Music Garden and many other places — will be a mineral-based broad-spectrum SPF 30 variety and free from parabens and scents.

The City will also have 150 canopy tents offering shade.

You can check out the interactive map to find out the locations where the sunscreen dispensers have been installed.
