Here's how Canadians can get a refund for space heaters recalled over fire hazard

If you usually use space heaters in the winter months, you might want to check if yours is part of a new nationwide recall.

Health Canada has issued a recall notice on GoveeLife and Govee Smart Electric space heaters due to fire and burn hazard.

"The products can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards," reads the alert posted on Thursday.

According to the agency, as of October 28, 2024, the company has received seven reports of overheating in Canada, and no report of injuries.

In the United States, the company has received 106 reports of overheating and one report of a minor burn injury.

The brand has reported approximately 48,584 space heaters sold in Canada, and around 512,500 were sold in the U.S.

Want to check if any of your heaters have been affected?

The recall involves the GoveeLife and Govee Smart electric space heaters with model numbers H7130 (including the H7130101 variation), H7131, H7132, H7133, H7134 and H7135.

"GoveeLife" or "Govee" is printed on the front or side of each unit. The space heaters were sold in black and white and measure from 9 inches in height to 26 inches in height depending on the model.

You can verify the model number of your heater by looking at the bottom or side face of it.

The space heaters were sold online through amazon.ca from October 2021 through May 2024.

Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled heaters and register for a refund here.

For more information, you can contact Govee Moments Trading Limited via telephone 1-833-772-5360, Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., by email at heatersupport@goveelife.com or visit the company website.

This isn't the only recall that has hit Canada recently. "Risk of crash" triggered a recall of over 52,000 GM vehicles across the country earlier this week.
