A new lunch spot can spice up the monotony of the daily grind. Whether you're sick of brown-bagging it or just bored with the existing options nearby, these new sandwich shops, BBQ joints, and rotisseries are open for business.

Here are my picks for the top 5 new lunch spots in Toronto.

Flock
Salads and rotisserie chicken are the focus on the menu at this newly opened takeout counter on Adelaide at Peter St. The menu lists quarter chickens for $5 with side dishes offered for $4, but for $8 you can try the very satisfying pulled chicken sandwich with crispy onions, beet and apple horseradish.

Abokichi
Grab-and-go onigiri ($3 each, or $8 for three) in The Annex make for an excellent and economical lunch option. Try fillings like chili and stewed kelp with Okazu, or pickled ginger and red shiso. Prefer a sandwich instead? Opt for pressed sandwiches like the chicken and Havarti in a combo with soup or salad for $12 or less.

Baguette & Co.
The Junction Triangle's new sandwich shop sells banh mi for $3 to $4 and come loaded with choices of char-grilled tofu, pork, chicken or beef, and dressed to spec with options like pork pâtÊ, pickled carrot and daikon, cilantro, and soy. Large salads with a choice of a protein cost $4.59, while daily soups like Thai coconut chicken start at just $2 for a small.

Marky's BBQ Smokehouse
This BBQ joint in Baby Point does brisk business in take-out, though there's a proper dining room and counters to lean against should you want to eat on site with unlimited access to napkins. House favourites include the meat pies ($7-$8) and the beef brisket sandwich ($10) loaded with a quarter pound of meat.

Oh My Lard
This upcycled shipping container in Market 707 has quickly become a favourite of locals and nearby hospital workers. Lunch is indeed the best time to go, as menu items like ribs ($8) and pulled pork sammies ($8) have been known to sell out.
