Cactus Club stops valet parking in bike lane after tweets

The Cactus Club Cafe opened up on Adelaide Street West in Toronto's Financial District a few weeks ago. And being a rather high-end chain restaurant, it offered its patrons valet parking, to the detriment of this city's cyclists.

Yes, one such cyclist caught the Cactus Club using Adelaide's bike lane for its valet service. Many others also took to social media platforms, such as Reddit and Twitter, to voice their concerns.

Rob Shostak posted the above photo and tweeted @cactusclubcafe welcome to the neighbourhood. The bike lane is not your valet drop-off. Figure it out pls.

William Wolfe-Wylie added @cactusclubcafe - it's really dangerous to have your valet drivers zipping in and out of bike lane. Almost side-swiped twice today.

We reached out to the Cactus Club for comment. "Given the proximity to the bike lanes, we are getting rid of our valet service effective immediately," responded Laura Serra from Narrative PR via email. "The last thing we want to do is cause an obstruction to the cyclists of Toronto. Our sincere apologies to anyone who was effected."

Have you noticed any other nearby restaurants taking advantage of the bike lanes? Let us know in the comments.
