A donut shop in Toronto has come up with a way to surprise your neighbours and connect in a distanced way, for free.

Right now, when you order half a dozen donuts from Donut Hive, you can also opt to get two surprise donuts delivered to a neighbour at no extra charge.

All you have to do is provide their address, and they'll even include a greeting card. Your neighbour just has to live within two kilometres on the same street.

Donut Hive was formerly known as The Box Donut, a chain making square donuts, but now makes uniquely hexagonal donuts in flavours like Oreo cheesecake, lemon, red velvet, pineapple and hazelnut.

"The main idea is to support people," Kateryna Solovei, manager for Donut Hive, told blogTO. "I think this initiative is rather about the missing human relationships, interactions. And our neighbours are one of those people whom we now miss."

Donuts have proven to be a popular way to connect with distanced loved ones during lockdown: so much so that a company sending messages spelled out with alphabetical letter donuts has been selling out.

If you want to get your hands on some donuts and surprise a neighbour, make sure you do it soon because this offer is only available until the end of February.
