Get 20% off your bill at this Toronto restaurant with one condition
A Toronto restaurant is now offering diners 20 per cent off their bill, but of course, there are some small catches.
Function Bar is starting up an industry night where hospitality workers and open mic participants get 20 per cent off their bill.
The subterranean bar and restaurant often hosts live music nights and serves bar fare like oysters, tacos and craft beer. They also now serve brunch.
For hospitality workers, proof of recent employment is required.
The restaurant replied to a comment on their post about the industry night asking what kind of proof would be required.
"The Industry Night specials are for hospitality workers," they wrote. "So we simply ask for proof of being in that industry in order to provide the discount, if we don’t know the customer yet. It does not have to be any of the aforementioned examples, as long as we can confirm they are a current hospitality worker."
Nik Mehiu of Function Bar says that they also trust people to use the honour system, but that proof could include a recent pay stub, clock-out ticket, employee card, an invoice or anything with viable proof.
"Industry night started as a way to restore community in our industry,"
Nik Mehiu tells blogTO.
"A way to bring us all back together after a particularly rough couple of years. We're a locally-owned small business and we wanted to give back directly to our peers. It's also a great opportunity to provide friendly service to the people who do so much for everyone else, on a night that's considered slow."
So if you've got any musical chops at all or have been busting your butt working in the hospitality industry, you can get a bit of a break on your bill for a night out at Function.
