Shake Shack in Toronto already getting slammed with one-star reviews
Just weeks after Toronto's first and only Shake Shack location opened, it's already drawing in one-star reviews from dissatisfied customers.
The excitement was palpable all around the city when news broke that the New York-based burger chain, Shake Shack, would officially be opening its first Canadian location in Toronto this past June.
While early reviews widely praised the burger joint, confirming that the burgers are well worth the long wait in line and the shakes worthy of having the entire chain named after them, it looks like not everyone's agreeing with the hype.
When scouring the restaurant's nearly 400 reviews (the majority of which, I would be remiss not to add, give the restaurant 5-stars), the charge against Shake Shack you'll come across most frequently is being overrated.
A number of reviews suggest that Shake Shack's Toronto location simply doesn't live up to the hype built by its fans south of the border, or that the quality of the food doesn't match that served at U.S. locations.
Other reviews claim that the Halal meats (beef and chicken) are cooked on the same surface as non-Halal meats, like bacon, thus rendering the entire meal non-Halal — though these allegations have not been confirmed.
Others complain that the amount of food received in an order — namely the size of the hamburgers and chicken burgers — aren't worthy of the price, which is noticably steeper than at other fast food chains.
Some reviewers claim that, when they tried to visit the restaurant, they found it closed for seemingly no reason, without any sort of notification.
The most (and, perhaps, only) concerning reviews come in the form of those who claim their hamburgers arrived undercooked or "raw."
In spite of the many criticisms, Shake Shack Toronto continues to draw in a disproportionate number of positive reviews, praising the chain for their classic smash burgers, hand spun milkshakes and groovy interiors.
Some even say that the food at the Toronto location is better than in the U.S., but hey, don't take my word for it — go try for yourself.
Shake Shack Toronto is located at 10 Dundas East.
