Toronto restaurant is handing out free french fries all month long

Now that clocks turned back for the end of Daylight Savings Time last week, the annual shock that comes along with the sun setting at 5 p.m. (soon to be earlier) has set in, and the winter blues won't be far behind. But one Toronto restaurant has come up with a particularly appetizing cure to the seasonal sadness.

If it's true that the way to a person's heart is through their stomach, then West Queen West's (and now also Little Italy's) J's Steak Frites holds a particularly special place in the hearts of those who've dined there.

True believers in the approach of doing one thing really, really well, the restaurant exclusively serves their steak frite dinners, which include a generous 10 oz striploin served with Bearnaise sauce, salad, bread and unlimited fries — and, really, why would you even want anything more?

While a hearty meal of any kind can work wonders when it comes to healing the despair of knowing winter is right around the corner, this month, J's Steak Frites is taking it one step further, by offering free french fries ("FFF," as they call it) every Saturday until at least early December.

Starting this Saturday, Nov. 9, anyone who passes by J's Steak Frites College (577 College) will be able to pick up a serving of french fries that are completely free — just to help ease the transition into nighttime as the sun sets.

The promotion will be running from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday for at least a month, and could quite possibly extend beyond that if the weather permits. Maybe having a green Christmas this year wouldn't be such a bad thing.

If you need something a little stronger than free frites to take the edge off, the restaurant is also offering a cocktail promo every Sunday for the same duration (starting this Sunday, Nov. 10,) where all drinks on the menu will be half-price from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The free frites will be given out exclusively at J's Steak Frites' College St. location.
