Brunch restaurant is permanently closing after 25 years in Toronto
A brunch restaurant that's been a staple in Toronto for the past quarter of a century just announced that it'll be permanently closing.
There are few things in this world more indulgent, more life-affirming, than a good weekend brunch of an all-day breakfast.
For starters, baked into the very concept is the notion that you can wake up whenever you please and not miss the metaphorical train of pancakes and eggs benedict and French toast galore.
There's also the fact that — in my opinion — a well-done breakfast is the superior of the three square meals, and few in the city do the most important meal of day (all day) better than Dundas West's Saving Grace.
Appropriately named, the restaurant has been a saving grace for those experiencing breakfast cravings at any time of day, with their French toast — some of the best in the city — earning it a particularly evangelical following.
Opening its doors in 2000, the restaurant rapidly gained itself a reputation as a local favourite, consistently drawing throngs of hungry diners for almost 25 years.
It's the end of an era for Saving Grace, though, as the restaurant recently took to their Instagram account to announce that they'll soon be shutting the restaurant down for good.
"We are closing up shop," the caption of the post, which features a poster announcing the closure, reads. "Our last day will be Feb 15."
While, at the time of publication, Saving Grace has not returned my request for comment on the reasons behind the closure, owner Monica notes that she's "overjoyed" to be closing the restaurant in the text on the poster.
"Please don't be sad," she adds.
Luckily, you still have a month to dine on all the Saving Grace specialties you can possibly stomach before the restaurant's gone for good the day after Valentine's Day — but they'll also be hosting a month-long yard sale from February to March to clear out the space.
Saving Grace is located at 907 Dundas West.
