Reigning Champ Toronto
Reigning Champ, the premium men's athleticwear brand hailing from Vancouver, peddled its wares exclusively at local shops like Gravity Pope and Nomad before opening a lofty flagship store on Ossington. The shop has all the minimalistic (yet meaningful) design details Reigning Champ is known for.
Designed by Peter Cardew (the same award-winning Canadian architect responsible for their stunning Vancouver location), the boutique features remarkably high ceilings, shiny white tile reminiscent of locker rooms, and west-facing windows. The amount of sunlight entering and reflecting in the space is almost blinding.
The product, on the other hand, is cozy and practical; made from luxurious fabrics developed and manufactured in-house, the pieces are 100% made in Canada and near impossible to want to take off.
Displayed on a series of identical clothing racks, birch tables and shelving units, everything is organized by colour (or lack thereof). Black, white, grey, and olive make up the entirety of their current (and presumable future) stock. In other words, it's safe to say timelessness is the brand's priority.
Though Reigning Champ currently only makes menswear, a good chunk of their customer base is female. I found myself eyeing a white henley with grey speckles ($95), crewneck sweatshirt emblazed with a crest logo ($140), and heavyweight terry sweatpants to match ($155).
Aside from sweats, they carry outerwear pieces like melton wool varsity jackets and nylon hoodies. Accessories like water bottles ($42), towels ($85), and baseball hats in both the 5-panel and 6-panel variety ($72) can also be found here.
