Suitsupply, a Dutch menswear brand, opened its first Canadian store in Yorkville last month after making waves all over the world. Their success can be attributed to a number of different factors, but the most prominent is their unapologetically youthful spirit - a notion I experienced first-hand when I stepped in expecting a prim and proper suit retailer, and found myself face-to-face with a floor-to-ceiling light box poster of bikini-clad models surrounding a (very) dapper chap.

"We want men to have fun with what they wear," brand representative Wilson Payamps explained. I guess the geometric wallpaper, brightly coloured furnishings, and R&B background music is meant to reflect that. The product, on the other hand, exemplifies it.

One section carries the casualwear - separates that can be added to a wardrobe for extra jazz, or mixed and matched in colour, texture, and pattern for ample excitement. The Havana jacket ($379 - $429) is a relaxed, slim-cut staple, available in a whole slew of pop colours and prints all year 'round. There's also a yellow raincoat ($499), linen crewneck ($99), and a pair of blue jeans created in collaboration with Baldwin ($249) - perfect for the weekend.

Then there are the suits - walls and walls of them in every boring grey and quirky pinstripe. Though they're made in China, the fabrics are sourced from some of the best mills in Italy and each style is available in regular, long, and short. Plus, the staff is trained at a special "Suit School" in New York and tailors can make any alterations on-site to ensure your ensemble fits like a glove.

Wilson joked that I - with my 5'0 height and petite frame - could have a suit tailored to my size while I fervently eyed a light grey number with a speckled surface ($639). In a couple of months, the possibilities will be endless thanks to a second floor dedicated to bespoke services.

Finally, goods like ties, socks, sunglasses, shoes and leather bags are scattered throughout the store, truly making it a one-stop shop for every swanky man's needs - swimsuit models not included.
