Ten Spot Leslieville
The Ten Spot Beauty Bar offers its famous not-so-bad Brazilian waxes at its Leslieville location.
Each waxing room has a small TV mounted to its ceiling so you can watch DVDs or other sitcoms and try not to think about what's happening to your nether region. Brilliant.
"The idea is to take your mind off it and help you relax a little," Amanda Schopen, assistant manager of the Leslieville location, tells me. "Actually, some people get so wrapped up in the show they stay in the room even after the waxing is done to watch until the end."
Though you can dawdle on your own accord, the mantra of The Ten Spot is all about being efficient, thorough, and getting the job done well.
Touting itself as Toronto's ultimate "anti-spa" experience, The Ten Spa isn't about relaxation--there are no jets in the pedicure tubs, for example - but more about fun and good service.
The business was started by Kristen Gale who opened the first beauty bar on Queen St. near Bathurst.
The Ten Spot Lalso offers "Gent Grooming," with services like "The Hand Job" (manicure for men), "The Foot Job" (pedicure for men), and "Man Brows."
"At first a lot of our male customers came here on recommendation from their wives and girlfriends," Schopen says. "But then, they started coming back on their own. We're not too pink, not too flowery. I think they appreciate that."
