Theatrics Plus
Theatrics Plus is a small year-round costume store close to Yonge and Wellesley, offering eclectic costumes ideas (with not so eclectic prices). With the majority of their packaged costumes starting at $60, most of the good stuff lands in the $100 plus range. Having the best costume at the party isn't cheap.
Among the avatars, video superstars and goddesses, I land upon a supreme edition Darth Vader mask for $180. Even the French maid corset was just under $100; of course with the right sifting I may have found some better deals.
For such as small space, the store manages to hoard much more than they probably should. On the plus side, they really offer something for everyone. It wasn't until I reached the back of the store that I finally found some costumes in a decent price range ($20-$30).
With that said, these consisted mostly of single items, such as pirate vests or cowboy shirts to complete a look. Kids costumes sell for less too.
Aside from their packaged costumes, the shop is loaded with accessories and final costume touches. Some include handcuffs, nurse hats, googly eyes, doctor mirrors, and various weapons to complete a villain or superhero look.
Covering the back walls is a remarkable display of wigs, which surprisingly sell between $25 and $35. Not only do they come in just about every style and colour, I saw wigs that resembled celebrities, movie characters and other familiar dos'.
Other perks include the masquerade selection located just behind the cashier, and the extensive gothika contact lense selection that is now being sold at select Halloween stores.
