Project Runway Canada is now taking applications
I previously talked about Project Runway coming to Canada on blogTO. At the time the details were fuzzy; the show is coming but no one was sure when. Those details have ironed themselves out and Project Runway Canada will air in the Fall on the newly re-branded network Slice (formally the Life Network).
Applications are now available on the Slice website. You have until April 27, 2007 at 6pm EST to submit your application. From the submissions, twelve finalists will compete for the top price of $100,000 dollars to begin their own fashion line and a spread in the country's foremost fashion magazine. I wonder which magazine is our country's foremost; the Project Runway team isn't saying.
To enter you must be 19 years of age or older and be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada. The application must be completed in its entirety; if you leave a question unanswered, you are out. The application itself is 20 pages, 8 pages of that is legalese. It covers employment history, fashion and design background, skills and interests and of course, the standard, are you crazy or violent questions.
The application is only one part of the process, you must also provide the following:
* A recent photograph of yourself
* A Portfolio consisting of images, drawings, photos or videos showcasing up to 8 of your original design pieces. The portfolio should also provide an explanation of each piece, the role(s) played by you in constructing the piece and any assistance you might have received.
* An audition tape no longer than five mins, in either VHS or DVD format. The tape will help the judges to learn more about your personality. You can include anything you feel is appropriate including interviews, promo clips, etc.
* Any press or publicity materials about the designer and/or the designs.
Remember to read all the fine print before entering this contest.
I'm dying in anticipation for this show. I hope many of our great local designers apply and make the cut. Fashion related television is going to be great in the second half of this year with Canada's Next Top Model showing in the summer and Project Runway Canada in the fall.
