Fashion Bites April 22 - 27, 2008

Welcome to Fashion Bites, a weekly round-up of fashion news in Toronto.

Buy Design is on this Saturday, April 26, 2008. Dress in your best Studio 54 outfit and grab a ticket to help the Windfall Clothing Service, Canada's only new clothing bank. Tickets are $75. If you buy 5 you get 1 free.

TFI's new labels Fashion Design Competition and Fundraiser kicks off the Elle Show on Thursday, April 24. Guest tickets are still available for $50. Find out who wins the New Labels contest while raising funds for the Toronto Fashion Incubator. Famous fashion people will be at the Elle Show this weekend. Check out Tim Gunn and Coco Rocha. I really don't understand why they invited Steven Cojocaru, Can you call people who cover celebrities, celebrities?

The Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles and Costume is now open on the 4th floor of the Crystal. The collection is a good representation of textiles and costumes from across the ages. I was impressed with the Egyptian tapestry square from the 4th century and the perfection that is an Azzedine Ala誰a suit.

The Textile Museum of Canada has some new exhibitions, all covering the topic of the Military. Battleground: War Rugs from Afghanistan features woven rugs that feature battle and weaponry images. It's a look on how three decades of war affects the art of a nation. Battleground: Patches - Military Uniform Insignia features patches from different Miltary units around the world. The final new exhibit is Battleground: The Kandahar Journals of Richard Johnson features the drawings and diary from Richard's stay in Kandahar last summer.

The Textile Museum is also looking for donations for its annual More than Just a Yardage sale.

Snoflake and Dagg & Stacey are having a trunk show April 24 from 6 - 9pm at Nathalie-Roze & Co., 1015 Queen St. East

The first winner of Project Runway, Jay McCarroll, is in a documentary at HotDocs. I'll be checking it out to find out what really happened after the cameras were turned off. Screenings are on April 24 at 9:15pm and April 25 at 11:45pm. I'll be checking out the April 25 screening with Final Fashion.

Bernadette Morra is leaving the start and has a parting shot for bloggers. I don't want your job Bernadette.

Toronto Fashion Bloggers Brunch, RIP.
