Distill Gallery, in the Distillery District, will be showcasing the work of Urban Product until July 27, 2008. Urban Product is a design firm based in Toronto with a focus on small scale products and industrial design. Stephen Lindsay is an OCAD graduate who is heavily influenced by Canadiana and ecological awareness.

His work takes everyday objects and transforms them into items for the living room, bedroom and kitchen. Stephen's quirky and modern style incorporates functionality, affordability, high quality and uniqueness.

Stephen reworks a definitive symbol of Canadiana, the hockey stick, into inventive pieces like ceiling-mounted coat hangers and coffee tables. Cleverly placed magnets allow the hockey sticks to hang from the ceiling and hold up to 25 pounds. They are very popular and have been featured in Toronto Life and the design blog Poppy Talk. Low-rise coffee tables use the blades of hockey sticks as legs.

Reclaimed refrigerator drawers are turned into wall mounted cabinetry. Incorporating pot hangers and a magnetic knife rack on the refrigerator drawers showcases much of Stephen's emphases on functionality and form.

Flints are an alternative to the hockey stick coat hangers that do not require metal. The small wall mounted hangers are sculpted to expose the beautiful ring pattern in the wood.
