Tamar Morgendorff birdhouse

Toronto Gift Guide: Tamar Morgendorff birdhouses

It's day number seven of my quest to find some of the best gifts in Toronto. Today's pick: Tamar Morgendorff fabric birdhouse. It snowed today and the sun set at 4:45pm. The first significant signs of winter dread already have me itching for spring. If I could, I would hibernate, and have fresh flowers delivered to my house every day. I would also surround myself with pretty reminders of warm weather to come. These lovely fabric birdhouses, made by NYC artist Tamar Morgendorff, bring spring-like life to the indoors when it's cold outside.

Made much like the way a bird might build a nest, Morgendorff hand-assembles the birdhouses from random bits of varying materials including linen, wool, newspaper and vintage fabric. They are gorgeous patchwork wonders that would add whimsy to a nursery, kitchen or little girl's room.

Additional specs: Approx. 5"x 5"x7", varied colours and materials, option to hang or sit

Best for: Curing a bad case of the winter blues

What they'll cost you: $139.95 and up

Where to get 'em: Kol Kid, 674 Queen St. West.
