Iconic Joy Division shirt redesigned Toronto style
Joy Division may have reached the point where their iconic Unknown Pleasures graphic is more recognizable than their music (sorry, goth pals). It's been altered and reinterpreted already countless times, sometimes cleverly, sometimes, oddly enough, by Disney. Now, fans of the band or "that dying star image" can also show their Toronto fandom thanks to designer Winterzone.
The original image was taken from the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy by graphic designer Peter Saville, after the gloomy band requested a "comparative path demonstration of the frequency of a signal of a pulsar." Since the CN tower is a radio tower itself, the Toronto shirt is a little like an alien fan transmission - this whole thing is more poetic than one would immediately think.
It's unclear what those not from Toronto, who wouldn't immediately register the piercing summit as the CN Tower, will think the added shape is. The shirt, which is selling for $18, is available on bigcartel and Etsy.
