A card store in Toronto known for selling loads of cuddly Squishmallows has announced they are closing their retail storefront.

"We were recently given an unexpected but super exciting opportunity that would allow us to concentrate on the creative side of the business, spend more quality time with family and focus on self-care, all the while continuing to bring new products to you," Queenie's Cards posted to social media on Labour Day Monday.

They had moved into the 2,350-square-foot space on the Danforth from a 300-square-foot space, and have been selling their super cute cards and gifts there for two years.

"We have adapted so well during lockdowns that we decided to stick with e-commerce and shift away from brick and mortar," reads the closing announcement.

In-store shopping and pickups won't be available anymore once the store closes, and shipping will be limited during the turnover while the team works from the warehouse to streamline the online business.

Orders have to be picked up before they close, and gift cards should be used ASAP. Big clearance sales are already on.

Moving away from a retail storefront will allow them to keep overhead low and devote more time to their personal lives and creativity.

"I started the company in 2008 as a hobby, and since I've taken it on full-time in 2014, you've all been overwhelmingly supportive," reads the closing post.

"Even though we will miss you greatly, we'll still see everyone in the neighbourhood, at local pop-ups and at our events."

Ampersand Bakehouse will be moving into the old Queenie's space on the Danforth. The Queenie's retail shop will be closing on Sept. 12, 2021.
