Beautiful store in Toronto is famous for its hats and clothing inspired by the outdoors
Tilley is a Canadian apparel and hat company inspired by life outdoors with a focus on sustainability and an emphasis on sun protection.
The brand was founded in 1980 by Canadian businessman Alex Tilley, who searched high and low for a durable sailing hat that matched his passion for the outdoors. Not finding much on the market, Tilley took it upon himself to create an item now synonymous with outdoor adventure — The Tilley Hat.
Over the next 40 years, the brand grew to encompass a range of outdoor apparel, hats, underwear, socks, and clothing made specifically for golfing.
Tilley's flagship store at 61 Ossington Ave. stays true to the brand's love for the outdoors, with its wood panelling walls and photographs out in nature.
The brand is bluesign certified, which allows it to minimize its environmental impact and to adhere to the highest industry standards regarding safety and environmental requirements, including chemical, water and energy consumption, carbon emissions, and worker health and safety.

Tilley's merino wool and down products are also RWS or RDS certified, which ensures that their materials come from farms that follow animal welfare practices and apply progressive methods of land management that protect native species, soil, and improve biodiversity.
One of Tilley's signature products is the T1 Iconic Bucket Hat ($99) which is a modern remaster of the original Tilley Hat. The everyday fit hat is made from durable cotton duck fabric and offers the highest sun protection rating while remaining well-ventilated.
The hat also boasts a secret pocket and comes in a variety of colours, including black, denim blue, dark pine, red and pink. The bucket hat floats, ties on, repels rain, and won't shrink.
If you're looking for something with a wider brim, check out the LTM6 Airflo Sun Hat ($99), which features an oval-shaped brim for all-around sun coverage, as well as Tilley's signature mesh ventilation. The hat is made from 100 per cent recycled nylon, and fits snug, so make sure to size up for the perfect fit.
The LTM5 Airflo Slim Sun Hat ($99) boasts a slimmer brim (as its name suggests), but still offers Tilley's signature mesh ventilating, and is equipped with water-repelling and sun-blocking technology.
If you're on the hunt for some clothes for your next camping trip, the brand also offers a wide variety of water-repelling apparel, including this Packable Hooded Poncho ($195). The best-selling item is made from 100 per cent recycled polyester and folds into a pouch for easy travel.
Another best-selling choice for layering is the Men's Stretch Merino Crew ($140), which offers your classic crewneck silhouette in a breathable yarn that boasts anti-odour and temperature regulation.
The Women's Stretch Merino Crew ($140) offers the same formulated technology.
If you tend to get hot and sweaty under your hats, the LTM1 Airflo Bucket Hat ($109) might be an option for you. The product combines the T1 silhouette with the brand's Airflo technology and comes with a ventilating mesh panel and elastic sweatband.
Operating under a tight budget? The Airflo Cooling Cap ($39) still offers the brand's Airflo technology and UPF 50+ sun protection.
If you're looking to make a fashion statement, the T3 Vintage Wanderer Hat ($99) takes the iconic cotton duck hat and gives it a more weathered look, while being water resistant and offering the highest sun protection.
One of the brand's latest additions to its product range is the Hydrowool Beanie ($49), which was specifically crafted for protection from the rain. Hydrowool yarns stop moisture from soaking through and also take advantage of the naturally occurring benefits in merino fibers to wick away sweat and regulate temperature.
Most of Tilley's hats are also Guaranteed for Life, meaning that you can reach out to the company to replace your item if it loses too much of its luster or breaks down against normal wear and tear, poor workmanship, or faulty material.
Tilley's products are available both online and in-store at 61 Ossington Ave.
