IKEA opens dream-like pop-up in Toronto

There's a new pop-up in Toronto this weekend, and it's all about sending you to sleep in style.

IKEA believes in the power of a good sleep, and that's why they created IKEA Dreamscapes, a pop-up filled with dreamy scenes, ultimate comfort and the sleep essentials that'll send you to Snoozeville the second your head hits the pillow.

"According to the annual IKEA Life at Home Report we know that 55% of Canadians rate sleep as their most important wellbeing activity at home, yet several studies also show that as many as one out of two adults report dissatisfaction with their sleep" says EJ Middelhoven, Head of Home Furnishing and Retail Design at IKEA Canada.

"IKEA Dreamscapes is our inspiring focus on the essentials for a good night's sleep, so that the many Canadians can focus on affordable and sustainable ways to invest in their health and wellbeing."

Transforming a warehouse space into the stuff of your sweetest dreams from Oct. 4 through 6, the pop-up features a number of different vignettes and areas inspired by sleep and comfort, which are all, of course, outfitted with the IKEA sleep essentials that'll have you diving into bed.

The pop-up is centred around six sleep essentials; light, temperature, comfort, declutter, sound and air quality, all of which feature prominently amid the dreamlike scenes of the pop-up.

Take a look inside the IKEA Dreamscapes pop-up and click to shop products in this video filmed in-store on Oct. 4.

The VÅGSTRANDA Mattress is the star of the show at the Goodnight Lounge.

The Goodnight Lounge features the firm VÅGSTRANDA Hybrid mattress ($699), formed into a banquette, piled high with IKEA throw blankets and pillows. Whoever said sleeping on the couch was a bad thing has never seen a couch like this.

The Swedish forest mattress-scape.

For those in the mood for something a little softer, the VALEVÅG Hybrid mattress ($449) is also a major player at the event, featuring in the Swedish forest mattress-scape inspired by a familiar fairytale.

"The classic tale of the Princess and the Pea was my inspiration for this installation," says IKEA installation designer, Chaeyun Kim.

"Sometimes it's the tiniest things that can make you feel uncomfortable," she says. "I wonder what would have happened if your princess was made to sleep on IKEA mattresses that fateful night."

The VIHALS Nightstand in all its glory.

Following with the theme of decluttering, the VIHALS Nightstand ($59.99) is as good a place to start as any. It's minimalistic design lets it seamlessly blend into any space, while spacious cubby-like holes allow for the insertion of additional organizers or bozes.

The FÖRNUFTIG Air Purifier gives a new meaning to 'clearing the air.'

The FÖRNUFTIG Air Purifier ($79.99) is a must-have in any bedroom. Its lightweight and low-profile design makes it an unassuming — even stylish — addition to the room, while it quietly purifies the pollutants that cause bad odors, allergies, breathing issues and, worst of all, poor sleep.

The pop-up isn't only about the practical things that help you get to sleep, though — it's also about the whimsy and wonder that come during the nighttime hours.

"Hoo" wants to sit on this installation featuring the SKOGSDUVA Owl Soft Toy?

No where better is this seen than in the Night Owl installation, which is inspired by childrens' imagination and the Swedish forest, featuring several dozen SKOGSDUVA Soft Toy owls ($12.99) adorning an IKEA loveseat. They were so cute, I almost felt bad sitting on it.

Having your head in the clouds is a good thing at IKEA Dreamscapes.

The other areas of the pop-up invite you to further explore the beauty and surreality of sleep, like Head in the Clouds, which features larger-than-life, low-hanging clouds that you can take a photo with — but I can't promise you won't want to try to lean your head on one like a pillow.

The pillow bar allows you to find your perfect pillow.

The pop-up also features a Pillow Bar (which doubles as an actual bar), that houses a number of different pillow options suitable for how you sleep. Side, stomach or back, they've got it how you want it.

You're feeling very sleepy as you gaze at the Powernap Pod.

The centrepiece of the entire pop-up is the Powernap Pod, a small A-frame cabin in the middle of the show floor that features all of IKEA Dreamscapes' highlighted items in play, paired with supple bed linens, cozy lighting and noise cancelling headphones, so you can really take a power nap should you so choose.

The pop-up will be hosting a number of giveaways and promotions throughout the weekend, giving you the chance to get your hands on some truly dreamy goodies.

The first 50 IKEA Family Members to attend the pop-up each day will walk away with a swag bag full of sleep essentials that'll take your nap game to the next level, but don't worry if you can't swing by until later in the day — everyone who visits IKEA Dreamscapes gets a coupon that gives you $50 off a puchase of $200 or more at any GTA IKEA location or on IKEA.ca.

IKEA Family Members also have the chance to win a $2500 sleep kit, which includes a new mattress, bed frame, bed textiles, lighting and more. You can learn more about joining the IKEA Family Loyalty Program here.
