The crew at Toronto-based Goodie Bag TV have just released their latest short comedy video - Polly Wolly - billed as the true story of a regular polyamorous guy looking for his non-monagamous queen.

What is Goodie Bag TV?

Kirby - Goodie Bag TV is simply an internet medium for my short films, as well as some shorts written by other people I collaborate with. Anything goes really, hence the "goodie bag" theme. We average a new video about every two months, occasionally more. We should have another new one up in about two weeks.

When did you start making videos?

About five years [ago]. My background is in graphic design, so some of those skills transfered or were at least helpful.

Did you guys go to film school in TO?

Nope, no film school for any of us. I'm self-taught. I write, direct, shoot, edit, record sound - absolutely everything that needs to get done. It's taken a lot of practice to get decent results and there's still near-infinite room for improvement.

What was the inspiration behind your latest video, Polly Wolly?

The basic plot of Polly Wally is true, but the details are all mine. The subject is close to home for myself and some of my friends because we've all experimented with non-monogamy with varying degrees of success. I tend to target things that I have a genuine interest in, which I think gives the comedy a better tone.

What sort of equipment do you use?

I shoot on MiniDV with a middle-of-the-road Canon camera. I edit with Adobe Premiere Pro because I like the integration with other Adobe products, but I also recommend Sony Vegas, which I used previously. Apple's Final Cut Pro gives me serious Mac-envy. If I was starting out, I would just get a Mac and start cutting with iMovie. But the tools you use really aren't very important. I've gotten distracted with that in the past and I'd like to encourage others to not do the same.

Where do you see Goodie Bag TV two years from now? Five years?

Within two years, I'll definitely have released an indie feature, probably a sexsploitation extravaganza. In five years, hopefully I'll have gotten the obscene stuff out of my system and will be doing more mature film or TV work and perhaps getting paid a little something for it.
