Doc Soup Features Mass Games

Doc Soup is back tonight at the Bloor Cinema at 7:00pm. The film: A State of Mind. This is a film about the Mass Games, which is a celebration that takes place every year in honor of the North Korean leader, Kim Jong II.

A State of Mind follows two young girls, who are gymnasts, as they train every day after school in hopes of being selected to perform at the highly anticipated Mass Games event in communist North Korea. Every day they are reminded at school, and by their country that they must hate the United States as they are the reason that North Korea implements random black outs and test air raids in order to prepare for a possible attack from their ally.

You really get a sense of how North Korea is cut off from the rest of the world, imposes harsh laws and expects a high level of discipline from their citizens. The people of North Korea are patriotic and proud of their opposition to the "Imperialist" country that is the United States of America.

But times are getting tough. Economic difficulties and natural disasters have made self reliance hard for this country and they must face every day hardships without criticizing their glorified leader. Their only outlet is to curse at the United States every chance they get.

Check out A State of Mind at the Bloor Cinema tonight.
