Brick screening @ the Varsity

Rian Johnson's debut feature film, Brick - which won a special jury prize at Sundance this year for "originality of vision" - is playing in a special advance screening tonight at the Varsity. The screening is a fundraiser event for the Images Festival, which runs in Toronto next month.

That's TONIGHT at 7:00. Tickets are $10 for non-members at the door, which (as I'm continuously reminded) is less than they'll cost when the film opens in normal theatres next week. And you get to support Images, one of the most entertaining and audacious festivals in the city.

I've been looking forward to seeing Brick's energetic homage to Dashiell Hammett's noirish world since I first heard about it, and will be reviewing the film on this weekend's podcast. And as a female friend of mine insists on pointing out, the flick also represents the return to the big screen of geek-chic hearthrob Lukas Haas, last seen making smoochies with Natalie Portman in Mars Attacks. How can you say no?
