THANK YOU FOR SMOKING - The Art of Bullshit

-Reps for Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco attempt to one up each other over lunch in THANK YOU FOR SMOKING.-

Writer and Director Jason Reitman (son of Canuck director Ivan Reitman) adapts Christopher Buckley's satiric novel THANK YOU FOR SMOKING which releases into theatres tomorrow.

Watch it, it's good for the soul-less.

Nick Naylor (Aaron Eckhart) is one of those clean-cut slimy PR reps; they don't hide from the truth, they filter it. It's the skill of spin and the art of bullshit that drives the film's smart ass nature to great heights. A rep for the Academy of Tobacco Studies, Nick finds himself at a certain crossroads. His son's growing curiousity about the nature of his rather unscrupulous methods of bending the truth are starting to take a toll on his once free conscious. After all, "Everyone needs to pay a mortgage," but does he really want his son to become what he has become?

The film is an enjoyable farce in that has a great depth of truth to its message. "Don't believe everything that you hear." It was a refreshing change from the tween films and the dreary foreign ones I had been screening for the past several weeks. Something within my demographic and something that catered to my sensiblities.

I suggest drinking a can of Red Bull before you screen it so you'll be super alert to catch everything that goes on in the rapid fire of wit. Course drinking Red Bull isn't all that great for you as it contains a high amount of sugar and the sugar free ones contain aspartame ... hey, but it's your health, right? At least, now you know.

THANK YOU FOR SMOKING opens March 24th.
