The Toronto After Dark Film Festival is giving away ten free double passes to the special advance screening of Korean monster movie sensation The Host, which takes place at the Paramount (okay, the Scotiabank Theatre) on March 28. And man howdy, do you want those tickets.

The Host has demolished box office records in its native South Korea, and made a mighty big impact at last year's Midnight Madness programme at TIFF, too. I reviewed it briefly on moviesTO in September, and it is a monster movie that literally begs to be seen on the big screen with a big, screaming crowd.

The story surrounds a giant mutant tadpole the size of a garbage truck and shaped like a cross between an otter and a sperm, with a mouth of teeth that would make a Sarlacc jealous. Environmental no-no's cause the creation of the loathsome beast, which then moves into the Han River, goes around abducting little girls into the sewers, and swings around chimpanzee-like from the undersides of various bridges. It has to be seen to be believed.

There's a post-beast "viral epidemic" that may or not be real, but has a whole lot of freaked-out people wearing quarantine masks and believing that cold-like symptoms are harbingers of imminent death. Remind anyone of some fun we had in Toronto a few summers back?
