Toronto film critics announce 2016 award winners

It feels like 2016 was a wild year, both on and off the big screen. And today, the Toronto Film Critics Association looked back to dole out its annual cinematic awards to a slew of both Canadian and international movies, many of which screened at TIFF.

The TFCA began making its announcements at 1 p.m. on Twitter and recognized blockbuster animated films, such as Zootopia, as well as foreign-language films, such as Toni Erdmann and smaller flicks, like the creepy horror film The Witch.

Here are the movies Toronto-area film critics recognized this year. Keep this list handy if you're looking to get some much-needed screen time over the holidays.
