Fit Squad Training
Fit Squad Training is Toronto’s fitness playground boasting the longest custom turf in the city and targeted strength training workouts.
The 5,800-square-foot facility whips you into shape through tough weight training and conditioning classes.
Led by Nike Master Trainer Jennifer Lau, Fit Squad’s team includes co-owners Aldo Frixone and Gabriel Lee, who developed Fit Squad for four years while at a smaller location on King West before moving to their permanent space on Peter and Richmond streets.
With it, they brought their loyal community who have come to depend on Fit Squad for their daily sweat session. The Fit Squad training team lives by the mantra “Push. Evolve. Become.”
Fit Squad is all about great training and, through personal training and group classes, emphasizes the importance of coaching. As such, Fit Squad has a team of seven coaches who push you to become your best while focusing on proper technique and form.
The space is outfitted with equipment from Rogue, Hammer Strength, Eleiko and a 90-foot runway of black turf. You’ll also get the best workout with curved treadmills, air bikes, rowing machines, and ski ergs.
The one-on-one group classes are tough stuff. This isn’t the place to go if you’re looking for an idle workout.
Fit Squad offers a variety of programs including Lifting School, a small group technique class for beginners and intermediates to enter fitness training and establish strong movement patterns while learning the importance of proper lifting techniques.
The class teaches you everything about Barbell, Kettlebell and Bodyweight training, and forms the foundation of the other group classes.
The other classes include Hardstyle Kettlebell, a Metcon class with hardcore kettlebell training, metabolic conditioning and bodyweight exercises.
It’s a great class if you’re looking to increase strength and shed a few pounds. Metcon exercises are a great way to improve endurance through structured patterns of work and periods of rest.
There’s also a Men’s Strength Camp, a training class made specifically to increase strength and build muscle. The Fenom class is the women’s training class with a strong emphasis on technique and tactical workouts with lots of squats, deadlifts, and lunges.
Lau has been one of the city’s go-to personal trainers for 13 years. She focuses on functional training with the use of kettlebells and barbells to show clients proper form while differentiating between squats and lunges.
Lau is meticulous with form, spotting every inconsistency during our workout together and carefully adjusting my posture and tempo.
Lau has made it her mission to make fitness accessible and fun to all women, and because of that, her training programs have become popular for newbies and professionals.
When you’re done the workout, you can hang out in the mini-lounge and collect your breath, grab a drink, and chat with the Fit Squad community.
The space is divided so that the gym is the focal point and the amenities like the lockers, changing rooms, and showers surround the fitness space.
A drop in class is $30, an eight class pass is $264, and unlimited monthly classes are $90/week.
