Chicks Help Build Cool Houses

As part of the Queen West Art Crawl, The House That Chicks Built at The Cadillac Lounge, presented by Artscape, was the place to be for live indie artists on Saturday night. A benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity, it featured an estrogen heavy musical lineup, including Claire Jenkins, Lori Cullen, Shauna Major, Eliza Jane Scott, The Delightful Divas, and Shoshanna Sperling.

Hosted by actor Dmitry Chepovetsky, the evening included music that spanned all genres, from the soulful to the quirky, and packed what is known as Queen West's largest patio. Jenkins started the evening with a fun selection of tunes, ending with a powerhouse cover of a Tom Waits song, translated into French. Sperling (part of kiddie music group Sho Mo and the Monkey Bunch) adapted some children's music for the more mature crowd present. Major and Scott showed off their stunning vocals on some brilliant tunes, and the Delightful Divas ended the evening with their funky a capella stylings.

Between sets, Chepovetsky shared facts about Habitat, and quizzed the crowd on their knowledge of Habitat, rewarding winners with beverages.

What a way to enjoy one of the last summer Saturday nights ... on one of the city's best patios, listening to some of the city's finest artists, supporting a great cause.
