So, What Don't You Wanna Do Tonight

There are a ridiculous number of good shows tonight (Take that Pop Montreal):

BC's Black Mountain are playing at Lee's Palace. Their self-titled debut proves that rock 'n' roll is still alive and well. $10.50.

I will be at the Weird War show at Sneaky Dee's. This band is fronted by gospel-psych-rock legend Ian Svenonius, of The Make-Up fame. I will be planning what I will wear two hours in advance. $10.50. Their newest record, Illumiated by the Light, is pictured above.

You are probably out of luck if you don't have tickets for Antony and the Johnsons w/ Coco Rosie tonight at Trinity St. Paul's, but if you do, I think this will be a top show. I am not going because the price is too high ($21.50), and I am looking to drink excessively and make inappropriate comments about people's outfits tonight. This show is not the kind of show I can do that at.

Other really good shows tonight are:

The Russian Futurists w/ The Cansecos at the Gladstone. This is a best-bet-budget show. If I get lazy about Weird War, I will wander down to this show instead. $8.

Architecture in Helsinki are playing at Rancho Relaxo tonight. Their last record, In Case We Die, is really excellent. They are kind of Fiery Furnacey, but way better, with accordians and pianos, and varying loud/soft, fast/slow bits. This is going to be good. $12. Actually, I might be here too.

Local indie darling Thom D'Arcy will be performing as The Ladies & Gentlemen tonight at the Rivoli. Google this band, he (they?) don't have a homepage I can find. Lots of well-deserved hype, because what I've heard of Small Sins, is great.

You can probably get tickets for all of these events at Rotate This, which is just west of Queen and Bathurst on the north side of Queen.

Good luck and choose wisely!
