Malajube @ Lee's Palace

The Montreal indie rock invasion continued Thursday night when Malajube took over Lee's Palace with a very impressive live show. The twist here is that this is no Anglophone band; Malajube sing in French!

I know, ground breaking concept; a band from Quebec singing in French. The funny thing is that it makes very little difference. I find that I usually have a very difficult time figuring out what the vocalist is actually saying anyways. French, being a "romantic language", gave their aggressive vocals a softer more melodic tone which works very well with their syncopated-indie-french-pop-jam sound.

I was absolutely floored by the raw power of their extremely catchy song "Fille a Plumes". This was definitely my favorite song of the night, if not of the month! Check it out on their myspace page.

The greatest thing about this show was that people actually danced. I'm not talking about typical Toronto head-nodding; I'm talking about full-out hands-in-the-air screaming! Maybe these fans were from Quebec...

The second greatest thing, besides the fabulous music, was Malajube's stage presence. They rocked out hard! More over, they had a great (English) banter going with the crowd. They seemed truly grateful for the strong turnout and enthusiasm of the crowd, who weren't going home without a second encore!

Oh yeah, and the lead singer wore a one-eared bear mask. Anyone know what was up with that?
