CD Review: Headnodz "Trafficking"

"Round here we grow talent but don't build careers" -- King Reign on "Happy Endings"

Quoted for truth.

If this compilation CD is any indication, DJ/producer Nick Holder's decision to revive hip-hop record label Treehouse Records is a good one. The 13-track CD is hip-hop that's more hip-hop than the hip-hop you see/hear today. Straight headnod beats here -- anyone looking for hip-pop or club friendly tracks should look elsewhere. Standouts include Happy Endings, War Crimes and Lies.

Holder's clique (King Reign, Dub Ill, Mathematik, Citizen Kane and singer Zaki) are quietly building something here. Headnodz is simply the foundation.
