Hot Ticket for the week of August 13 - 19

Tuesday, August 15th - When Pink Floyd founding member and madcap visionary Syd Barrett passed away in July, the Toronto music community held a moment of silence... but only a moment. Now it's time to pay tribute to the man who penned such amazing classics as "Lucifer Sam" and "Interstellar Overdrive". The Silver Dollar (486 Spadina) will be hosting a Syd Barrett tribute night on Tuesday with a stellar lineup including Rick White (Eric's Trip), Dallas Good (the Sadies), Jose Contreras (By Divine Right), Wil Kidman (the Constantines) and over a dozen other area bands & musicians. Doors 8 pm, $6 -- Beth

Friday, August 18th - Eat the beat. It's a jam session this Friday with Jazzafrique. The balafon, djembe & bass ensemble (Kassim Diamou, Kwanza Msingwana and Kobe Aquaa-Harrison) join forces with emcee/beatboxer Subliminal for a jamming good time. 7pm at Ryerson Student Campus Centre (55 Gould St) $5. -- Ryan

Friday, August 18th - On Point Recordings, a local label five years in the making, throws its first event this Friday. Marcus Visionary, Mystical Influence, Everfresh, Lush, Ryan Ruckus, Saigon and Booms & Kingpin are on the bill, with L Natural and Caddy Cad on the mic. Toronto drum n bass done right. @ Gypsy Co-op (817 Queen Street W). $5 before 12, $10 after. -- Panthea

Saturday, August 19th - The Bicycles are finally having themselves a CD release party! The Bicycles will be playing two shows to celebrate the release of "The Good, the Bad and the Cuddly" at The Tranzac (292 Brunswick) - one is all ages (at 2 pm), the other 19+ (9 pm). ALLCAPS!, Toronto's all-ages music series, definitely recommends this show and so does BlogTO. $7 -- Garry
