Akroid: Taking it Back, Pushing it Forward

Wednesday night saw the debut of Akroid. No, not the actor, he's been around forever. Akroid is the newest four piece to join the GTA's burgeoning hardcore scene. But don't be fooled, the band might be new, but these guys are no strangers to the Toronto music scene.

Between Ken (vocals, guitar), Jay (drums), Scott (bass) and Nathan (Guitar), we're talking a musical career that's stretched back over 20 years. Growing out of the punk rock scene of the mid 90's, the boys have brought a wealth of skill and knowledge to a genre that can sometimes be construed as a place we're little talent exists.

Cross Canada tours, stops on the infamous Warped Tour, hundreds of shows, and dozens of albums under their belt with bands including Arkata, Katja, Oneshot, This Time of Year and more, Akroid brings a new flavour to an old idea. Drawing on punk rock and mid 1990 hardcore in the vein of Shotmaker and Four Hundred Years; Akroid updates the style with heavier sounds and a mathematical style. The results are awesome. The songs blend a more mature sound with a driving passion to make loud music with logic.

They also elected to record and distribute their own material, rather than deal with the headaches of trying to go through someone else. Gorgeous Industries, manned by Ken, Jay and Scott, will see releases of Akroid's new album Run For Your Life by the end of the month.

Akroid will be playing Feb. 10th at Duke's in Mississauga. If you're down with listening back while looking forward, go see them.
