CMW: Attack in Black, Comback Kid
Here's a double-shot of two bands that played Thursday night.
Attack in Black @ The Horseshoe, 9 PM
Having never heard Attack in Black before, I took a chance and headed down to the Horseshoe for the show.
And what I got was a pleasant surprise. Full bore rock done right!
Attack in Black, hailing from Welland, took the stage and proceeded to rock with heart and elegance. Their music combines high-energy rock with two man melodies and a penchant for vocals you'd just love to sing along too. Worth the time it took to rush from the Opera House. The boys are off across Canada before jetting to Europe to support Moneen on tour.
While at the show, I happened to run into another CMW performer, Billy The Kid (Art Bar, Friday @ 11:45). She helped me sneak into the next show (which turns out wasn't really a CMW show, but we'll pretend it was like most of the media there did).
Comeback Kid @ The Kathedral, 9:45 PM
Comeback Kid was already into their set when we arrived, and the crowd was in full circle-pit mode. I'm a huge fan of Comeback Kid's new album Broadcasting. Its a wicked throw-back to hardcore punk of yesteryear (think old Sick of It All meets Strife).
The show was full speed from start to finish. Hot, fast and violent. Just the way it should be! They played to a packed house at the Kathedral with the whole crowd singing every word to every song. Amazing!
I'm glad I managed to make it to the show, and this was one that I would have been prepared to pay the $15 for. Make sure you see Comeback Kid live, and bring some defensive gear when you do.
