Theirspace / The Salingers

If Client were from Toronto, every single edition of Theirspace would about the ladies and their legs. They have a new album out called Heartland that is brilliant electro pop. Drool I say, DROOL!

Alas, I couldn't find any electro-pop I liked playing this weekend, much less any with bassist Client E involved. Instead I'm recommending you check out some upbeat local indie rock. Whatever The Salingers are, the name is pluralized, so expect more than one of them...

The Salingers Myspace Page

My head likes to bob, my legs like to bounce, and they both like doing such things at the same time, preferably in unison. The group's comprised of four guys who are just barely children of the 80's, and they play music for people their age. Ever get creeped out when these hardcore stadium filling 38 year old rock groups have nothing but fans in the 12-16 age bracket? It's a highly illegal meat market for the majority.

But The Salingers will have none of that! Groupies need only apply if they can buy a drink from the bar, sans ID.

But what does the music sound like? Well, I'm growing tired of describing each song a band has on their MySpace page in detail, so here comes the first of many quicker roundups.

This indie rock is not a likely candidate for a Jenna Jameson porno, nor is it befitting of the next God of War PlayStation game. Oddly enough, their homepage mentions an Oasis influence, and sitting here listening to "Drive", I was about to write the same damn thing. But it's an Oasis influence in the non-"shitty like Oasis" way. It's more in singer Chris Hickey's voice than anything else, and Liam Gallagamatron always did have a cool voice. Myspace opening track "Fresh" starts off with a slide-sounding uber-happy arpeggio that instantly recalls all the good things about alternative rock radio in the mid-late 90's. Music should be fun, unless it's too busy being all suicidal, but that's what NIN is for.

The three tracks, none of which are available for download unfortunately, paint a detailed picture of what will be an all around fun night at Rancho Relaxo this Saturday. You know I don't recommend stuff that's ass, never have, never will. Rest assured, your measly 5 bones would be well spent.
