Am I the only one who thinks that Henri Faberge and The Adorables are a light-hearted band? No one would dispute that they are a large band, and that they are highly entertaining. Aren't they also light-hearted?

I was wrong. Henri set the record straight when I spoke to him about their very cool gig tonight at the Drake in support of the Childhood Cancer Foundation.

blogTO: Where did the name "Henri Faberge and The Adorables" come from?

Henri FabergĂŠ: Names are unduly thrust upon children by their unthinking parents, more a testament to the adult concept of propriety over their spawn than anything else. A child must grow into its name, but should not let it dictate its personality, lest they become their parents' ill-conceived vanities. The Adorables is a nomenclature referring to the group of circus orphans I purchased while vacationing in the Orient.

How many members do you currently have and how many members have you had so far?

Members come and go, but vaginas is life.

What inspires your songs and sound?

Have you ever heard of a cautionary tale?

How does all your instrumentation come about?

Adorables play the instruments they learned as adorablings, or learn new ones.

Is it difficult to coordinate with everybody?

I spend most of my life chasing down Adorables to see if they are attending practice/shows/binges.

You're headlining a great fundraiser for childhood cancer research. How did you get on this bill and what does it mean to you to be attaching your light-hearted act to a serious cause?

There is nothing light-hearted about our band. We aim to generate discussion about the disgusting turn love and respect and compassion has taken in the modern age. But we trick people into having a lot of fun while doing it. (NB: Cancer isn't fun).

You released your debut record last summer. Any plans on a follow-up record any time soon? Are performing new songs right now?

My wife and I are writing a puppet musical called "Don't Go Down To Boil Street," but the Adorables are still churning out hits.

What's on tap for you folks for the rest of the year?

We are touring the East Coast in early September, but every Adorable is also a Laura Barrett or a Woodhands or a Maylee and the Pegwee Monster, so I take hits when I can get them.
