Easy Indie Love on College

My Saturday night was all about indie rock on College Street. Two very different venues. Two amazing performances.

After sitting in the dark for Earth Hour, looking at the brightly-lit court house across the street from my apartment (ahem), I jetted to the Mod Club to catch a great set by Toronto-via-New York City popsters Seedy Ease. This solid three-piece features singer/guitarist/remixer Daniel Brooks, Hollie Stevenett on bass, and kick ass drummer/singer Robbie Butcher (also in Tin Bangs). The worst thing about their set was the lack of light hitting Robbie. That dude deserves more of the spotlight then most lead singers.

After Seedy Ease finished playing, I jetted across College to catch one of my favourite new bands at Tiger Bar. Ottawa band The Love Machine have been turning heads left and right in their hometown. They scored a headlining set at this year's Pitter Patter Festival, and they definitely made the most of it. Although the crowd was on the small side, The Love Machine brought their unique blend of pop, rock, and four-way vocal exuberance just as hard as they did for a packed house at Barrymore's in Ottawa a couple weeks back.

As I was heading home to bed, local band Morning Electric were playing some 90's-inspired alternative rock. If you like bands from that era, you should check them out sometime.
