Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger... Live!

Need a fun diversion from all the hype that surrounds Canadian Music Week? Tonight's Daft Punk Tribute band at The El Mocambo promises to blow you out of this world.

"We're all in the jazz program at Humber College," says Ryan William Spratt, who contributes vocoder, keyboards and laser noises in their show. "Our band features a full horn section, keyboards, guitars, bass, drums and singer.

This 11-piece troupe is made up of Humber College music students who have special abilities aside from their musical talents.

"My role is to basically act like a superhero," says Spratt. "We sum up the force from the centre of planet Neptune. "We've got to bring the real electro-funk intensity and process it through our oscillators."

These live shows are pretty rare. "We play a gig only every 4-5 months," says Spratt. "Our next gig isn't likely until September."

Daft Punk Tribute plays tonight at the ElMocambo (upstairs) with Yuka and Ketch Harbour Wolves. Tickets are $10 at the door.
