Mr. Scruff came to the Wrong Bar

This was my first time going to Wrong Bar even though it is only two and a half blocks from my apartment. Mr. Scruff was going to play and I was ready to check it out.

The inside of Wrong Bar is all right. From the plush leather couches and spacious dance floor to the Rockola 488 juke box and vintage 8ball deluxe pinball machine. I was treated like a regular by Gani from Milk, the promoter and my new favorite beautiful bartender Gillian.

The doors opened at about 10 O'clock and I arrived at 10:30. The DJ was playing some dub with jazzy horns. I assumed it was one of the Milk crew warming up the crowd till I found Gani and asked "When does Mr.Scruff go on"? I was informed that none of the Milk regulars were going to play and that Mr. Scruff had been playing since before people even got to the bar. With that kind of dedication to working it and building up the night I am already impressed.

After hanging around sticking my camera in Mr. Scruff's face for half an hour I got to speak to him very briefly. I had noticed that he had a shopping bag of records on the floor next to him so I asked "How do you find digging for records here in Toronto compared to other major cities you go to"? "Fantastic, I love this city for record shopping."

Records are what he spins for the most part. No laptop with serato just two record players and two CD players. And the 45's oh my. All kinds of jazz and reggae rarities.
The crowd was showing their appreciation by dancing their butts off and cheering Mr Scruff on the whole night.

I had a hard time dragging myself out of this show even though I knew I had to work in the morning. I probably stayed an hour later than I should have but that's the price you pay for good music.
