Brent Randall & his Pinecones Drop into The Boat

Brent Randall and his Pinecones dropped by The Boat Thursday night bringing with him The Saffron Sect and B.A Johnston.

Brent was in town for a stop on his cross Canada tour in support of a new single from the to be released full length in May.

B.A Johnston is an event to behold. The energy this man puts out for his one man show is unbelievable. Singing, dancing on chairs, running through the crowd and around the bar. Did I mention tackling and sitting on photographers? B.A really interacts with the crowd as I found out the rough way. Do not get too close to this animal when they let him out of his cage. All in good fun though, it made for a couple interesting photos.

The Saffron Sect played with so many instruments I lost count and had to ask about the names of some of them. There was multiple guitars, flute, drums, bass, sitar, autoharp, xylophone, fiddle, tambourine and clinkers.
Even with so much going on all at once their sound was tight and wonderfully arranged. My only problem with The Saffron Sect was that they didn't play long enough.

Brent Randall and his Pinecones came on much later than I had anticipated but was well worth how tired I am this morning. Brent and the band are from Halifax as am I so I always try to get out and cover the East coast bands when they stop by my new home.
The Pinecones are made up of stellar performers from other Halifax acts Laura Peek & The Winning Hearts and Their Majesties.
Brent and his band had the crowd dancing, singing along and loving them. Brent's vocals are melodic and soothing. A real fresh voice in this screaming loud marketplace we call music.
