LCD Soundsystem DJs Make Disco Special Again

LCD Soundsystem ringleader James Murphy and his drummer Pat Mahoney love disco. A lot. Not cheesy 70's disco though. They champion the kind of disco that Murphy refers to as "real liberation music for people who know where to go".

The dynamic disco duo have started a new project called Special Disco Version. It's a DJ tour and a way for both to mix classic tracks they love with new records in their collection - actual records. They like spinning vinyl because they hate the way MP3's sound and according to Murphy "they sound even more horrible on big systems". Mahoney says "vinyl is twice as loud, the silences are more silent, the bass sounds incredible, [and] there's much more space".

This Saturday, Murphy and Mahoney bring their Special Disco Version party to Wrongbar - Toronto's new disco hot spot. I say that because my favourite event of 2008 so far was there when Mahoney and fellow DFA Records labelmate Andy Butler (from Hercules and Love Affair) lit it up with disco and classic house during NXNE.

This party is going to be amazing, and judging by the positive RSVPs on the Facebook event page, it's going to be absolutely packed. Do you want to go for free? The first person to leave a comment below will get two free tickets to the party. Good luck!
