The Neighbourhood Mixtape

The Neighbourhood Mixtape: Always in Season

The Neighbourhood Mixtape is a collection of newly-released songs by Toronto musicians. The mixtape is meant to celebrate Toronto's music culture and provide a forum to listen to and discover new local music.

Every Sunday, I post a five-track mixtape (along with my own mini-reflections for each track) that you can download or stream as a soundtrack for the week.

Track #1: Trust, "Bulbform"

Synth-pop duo Trust will release their debut LP TRST (via Arts & Crafts) on February 28. Now, you can buy the venomous and noir-like single "Bulbform" here.

Track #2: The Elwins, "Stuck in the Middle"

The Elwins go to work in the psychedelic tangles of "Stuck in the Middle", a track off their upcoming LP And I Thank You. Download it free here.

Track #3: Tenderness, "We Lay Our Broken World In Sorrow At Your Feet"

"Love must be reborn" harks an insomnia-inducing voice, the words emerging through conscious layers of saxophone and tipsy bass.

Track #4: Hands & Teeth, "Hunting Season"

Hands & Teeth's catchy album-title track "Hunting Season" demonstrates the band's sincere and fun approach to music. Listen to their full-length debut album Hunting Season in its entirety over on Exclaim.

Track #5: Caleb Winters, "You Are the Sea"

There is a weighted element to Caleb Winters songs, like in "You Are the Sea" where its hush and aqueous melody surge before the track fades like a sinking vessel.
