The Neighbourhood Mixtape

The Neighbourhood Mixtape: Hands in the Middle

The Neighbourhood Mixtape is a collection of newly-released songs by Toronto musicians. The mixtape is meant to celebrate Toronto's music culture and provide a forum to listen to and discover new local music.

Every Sunday, I post a five-track mixtape (along with my own mini-reflections for each track) that you can download or stream as a soundtrack for the week.

Track #1: Bishop Morocco, "Bleeds"

"Bleeds" is the psychedelic first track on Bishop Morocco's new EP Old Boys. The EP incorporates a wide range of sounds with stylistic, airy and celestial songs. Download the EP for free here.

Track #2: Sousou, "Hushhh"

Sousou engages you in the idea of loneliness, but only if you can keep up with the neurotic flutter of her ukulele and sorrowing voice in lo-fi - a serene lament.

Track #3: The Wooden Sky, "Malibu Rum"

The quiet, laid-back "Malibu Rum" leaves a hazy, dreamed-up impression, moving like the long shadow of a memory.

Track #4: Ohmno, "When Yer Dead"

Humid vocals, swaths of clamor, and cyclical harmonies with a sweet shimmer near the end make up Ohmno's three-minute jam passage, "When Yer Dead". Grab their entire album for free here.

Track #5: Trust, "Sulk"

Only two more days until Trust's debut album TRST - one of this year's highly anticipated releases - hits store shelves. Listen to "Sulk" and then grab your copy on Tuesday, February 28. You can also catch them live at Wrongbar March 3rd.
