Prominent online music critic Anthony Fantano is learning the hard (and hilarious) way this week, that Drake doesn't take kindly to accusations of sending cookie recipes to people via Instagram DM.

In what might be the Canadian superstar's weirdest beef to date, Drizzy took to IG on Thursday night with a screenshot of three messages he'd sent to Fantano earlier this week — none of them particularly nice.

"Your existence is a light 1," reads @champagnepapi's message to @afantano. "And the 1 is cause you are alive. And cause you somehow wifed a black girl. I'm feeling a light to decent 1 on your existence."

The "light 1" refers to the rating system used by Fantano on his popular YouTube channel, The Needle Drop. It constitutes a very poor rating, similar to those the reviewer has given Drake's past few albums.

It's not clear why Drake decided to cold-DM Fantano with the aforementioned insults; some think Drizzy may have finally watched The Needle Drop's review for Honestly, Nevermind, which Fantano pans as "badly produced, weakly sung," and "horrendously underwritten."

Whatever the case, Fantano effectively twisted the entire exhange into a weird Drake sh*tpost, dropping a new video on Thursday called "Drake Slid Into My DMs."

Whether to troll the Toronto rapper directly or simply have some fun at his expense, Fantano uses the video to show off some fake messages he claims to have been sent to him by Drake (as opposed to what Drake actually sent).

"Anthony! It's Drizzy. I know we don't really see eye-to-eye about music and that you are not the biggest fan of most of my albums," reads the Photoshopped message from Champagne Papi. "But it is what it is, you know. Can always hope you'll like the next one!"

"But I'm not messaging you about your videos. I'm actually messaging you cause I found a really great vegan cookie recipe I'd love you to try!"

Then comes a comprehensive recipe with step-by-step instructions for making some coconut-heavy cookies that actually sound pretty good. 

"I'd really appreciate it if you could give this a spin and let me know if it's worth trying myself!" the fake message concludes. "Appreciate you! Drizzy out!"

Within hours of the YouTube video going live, Drake fired back on Instagram by posting screenshots of the messages he'd actually sent to Fantano, making it perfectly clear that he did not and has never sent cookie recipes to the critic.

Fans had suspected that the recipe messages were fake, but many were surprised to learn that Fantano had actually messaged Drake at all.

The YouTuber seems to be loving the attention.

"I made that man leak his own DMs," he bragged on Twitter late Thursday, soliciting responses from his own fans about how Drake clearly watches The Needle Drop, as evidenced by the "light 1" reference.

"My rating system lives rent free in his head," wrote Fantano in another post, shortly after "that bitch shared the salty ass DM to over 100 million people."

The people of Twitter are delighting in the exchange, calling it hilarious and praising Fantano for the stunt.

"Fantano turning drake DMing him insults into a vegan sh*tpost is so good, my icon," wrote one. "Even better that Drake got so mad at people thinking he sent Fantano a cookie recipe that he decided to screenshot his insults and post it on his story to 119 million followers."

"This man Drake sent @theneedledrop mean DMs, Fantano took it like a G and made a joke out of it and the world would have been none the wiser," wrote another.

"Then Drake leaked his own real DMs out of spite. Most secure rapper ever... I hope this is an elaborate prank tbh cause wow."

Drake stans, too, are coming out hard to defend the Grammy-winning rapper and let Fantano know what they think of his work.

"Anthony Fantano is a loser with wayyyyy too much to say about black music. Needless to say, I’m very much here for Drake's dm to him," wrote one.

"I don't care how corny or insecure this looks or how much of an attention field day Fantano is gonna have with it, Drake telling Anthony Fantano 'i'm feeling a light to decent 1 on your existence' is the funniest fucking shit ever," wrote another.

Regardless of which side of the fray they're on (if any side at all), people are really delivering on the jokes from the exchange.

To wit, as one Twitter user wrote when sharing the screenshot of Drizzy's real DM to the music critic: "First known proof of Drake dming someone his own age."
