Canadian content aplenty at this year's TIFF
There's no No Heart Feelings, but this year's Toronto International Film Festival is brimming with Canadian-made world premieres, including five gala presentations and 40 Canadian shorts.
The Canada First! roster, now in its seventh year, will showcase six films by Canada's freshest homegrown talent including a psychological thriller by Patrick Demers from Quebec and "Daydream Nation" by BC-er Mike Goldbach.
Special presentations include a Sturla Gunnarsson documentary on 75-year-old David Suzuki (I know--he's 75?!) and a new Bruce McDonald rock duo film.
Canadian galas include Jonathan Sobol's "A Beginners Guide to Endings," a comedy about three sons dealing with their gambling father's legacy, and five other previously announced titles. Jody Shapiro and William D. MacGillivray total the list of Canadian documentary filmmakers in Real to Reel, and a restored "A Married Couple" (which is quite persuasive if you're considering pursuing a single life) is being restruck for Canadian Open Vault.
The list of more Canadian titles is available on the TIFF website.
