Toronto Board of Trade disappointed with mayoral candidates

Toronto's Board of Trade says that none of the front-running mayoral candidates has the right plan for the city.

"We are concerned that with just six weeks until the election, no candidate has put forth a comprehensive plan on how they will unleash Toronto's capacity for economic growth and job creation," Carol Wilding, the Toronto Board of Trade's president and CEO, said in a statement. "Our economy is still dealing with economic uncertainty. We can't afford four more years of incremental movement on the key challenges."

The board has recommended 12 vague-sounding recommendations for mayoral candidates to improve their visions for the city. They include:

  • Fund, expand and better integrate our regional transportation system
  • Work together to develop priority neighbourhoods
  • Optimize use of our social infrastructure
  • Reform City Council and City Hall
  • Regain the public's confidence in City Hall

Sound like comprehensive, innovative recommendations to me. If only the candidates had thought to discuss those topics before now. Thanks, Board of Trade!
