Rob Ford unveils fiscal plan (again?)
At least this time, it's not a six-minute YouTube video.
Rob Ford unveiled his "Financial Impact" plan today, which is supposedly different from his similar-sounding "Saving Our City" plan released last month. In his statement, Ford said that he would create a surplus of nearly $1.7 billion in his first term, which will be used to improve priority services, rebuild reserves, and repay debt.
The $1.7 billion would come from cutting spending at City Hall. Ford said that he would reduce spending in 2011 alone by $525.6 million, creating a $22.6 million surplus. Sounds like councillors at City Hall would lose a lot more than just their free Metropasses.
