Toronto event listings for the weekend of January 10 + 11, 2009:
SATURDAY
1. No Pants 2K9
Toronto joins 24 international cities and drops its drawers on the subway. If you don't mind showin' a lil' skin, then join the crowd. But before you do, please read the instructions, and leave your cameras, laughter, and news reporter friends at home.
TTC.
OTHER / 3pm / free / website
2. Battleawesome Awesomestar
After its sell-out run, Bad Dog Theatre revives this Battlestar Gallactica satire -- DUH -- for four shows in January. Guess jumping on the back of a popular television program does work. In fact, maybe I'll rename this column "Schmeroes"... Runs every Saturday in January.
Bad Dog Theatre. 138 Danforth Avenue, (416) 491-3115.
COMEDY / 10pm / $10 / website
3. ENTER... ZOMBIE KING
Trash Palace cult film programmer Stacey Case presents his feature directorial debut from 2003, a campy tale pitting Mexican wrestlers against zombies. Q&A follows, with some real-life, dirty goss on producer-director messiness. Juicy.
Trash Palace. (For address info, purchase advance tickets from Eyesore Cinema @ 801 Queen Street W, 2nd floor.)
FILM / 830pm / $5 / website

The folks who bring you Toronto's best summer dance party, Cherry Beach Sundays Afternoon Soundsystem, are behind this DJ SK8 set at Harbourfront's Natrel rink. Rent some ice skates and work your axels and salchows.
The Natrel Rink. 235 Queens Quay W, (416) 973-4000.

Party in the Ballroom planetarium! Toronto celebrates the official kick-off day for the International Year of Astronomy with projections, telescopes, steampunk sculptures, and a lot of science types. Wavelength 445 presents an evening of pop music with Burn Planetarium (power pop), Gregory Pepper and His Problems (lush pop), and A.M. (electro).
MUSIC / 10pm / PWYC / website
5. Next Stage Festival
See eight panel-selected fringe sets showcasing the future of theatre; shows include Reesor, the well-received multimedia tale about a Northern Ontario ghost town, and Take It Back, a contemporary dance program that somehow merges breakdance and swing. Seeing as I can't even do the Macarena, this boggles my mind. Runs to January 18.
Factory Theatre. 125 Bathurst Street, (416) 966-1062.
STAGE / $12-25 / website
6. Toronto International Boat Show
If you dream about boats, gush over the sea-faring lifestyle, and want to be in the same room with thousands of others who share your love, then this is the place to be.
